This Acceptable Use Policy ("Policy") outlines the terms and conditions for using LawCite. By accessing or using LawCite, you agree to comply with this Policy. Violation of this Policy may result in suspension or termination of your account.

01 — Authorized Use

1.1 Law Enforcement Professionals Only

LawCite is designed exclusively for law enforcement professionals. You must:

Be a current or former law enforcement officer
Use LawCite for legitimate law enforcement research purposes
Maintain accurate account information
Use your account only for your own authorized use

02 — Prohibited Uses

2.1 Illegal Activities

You may not use LawCite to:

Violate any applicable federal, state, or local laws
Infringe on intellectual property rights
Violate constitutional rights or civil liberties
Engage in any form of harassment or discrimination

2.2 System Abuse

You may not:

Attempt to gain unauthorized access to any part of LawCite
Interfere with or disrupt the Service or servers
Use automated systems to access LawCite (scraping, bots, etc.)
Share or transfer your account credentials
Create multiple accounts to circumvent usage limits

2.3 Content Restrictions

You may not submit content that:

Contains confidential or classified information
Includes personal identifying information of individuals
Violates agency policies or procedures
Is false, misleading, or fraudulent

03 — Research Integrity

3.1 Verification Requirements

You must verify all information obtained from LawCite before relying on it. LawCite is a research tool and does not guarantee accuracy. You are responsible for:

Verifying all case citations independently
Reading full case opinions from official sources
Confirming cases are still good law
Consulting with qualified legal counsel when appropriate

3.2 Professional Responsibility

You agree to use LawCite in accordance with your professional responsibilities and agency policies. LawCite does not replace professional judgment, proper training, or legal counsel.

04 — Account Security

4.1 Your Responsibilities

You are responsible for:

Maintaining the confidentiality of your account credentials
Using a strong, unique password
Promptly notifying us of any unauthorized access
Logging out after each session

05 — Consequences of Violations

Violation of this Policy may result in:

Immediate suspension or termination of your account
Loss of access to your research data
Legal action if violations involve illegal activity
Reporting to your employing agency if applicable

LawCite reserves the right to investigate violations and take appropriate action, including reporting to law enforcement authorities when necessary.
